Goosefoot Earns Michelin Star 11 Months After Opening
Announced Tuesday, Lincoln Square's Goosefoot earned a coveted Michelin star in the 2013 guide.
Most fine dining restaurant owners earn a coveted Michelin star years after opening. The star-rating signifies exceptional cuisine; only 19 restaurants in Chicago claim one.
But for Lincoln Square’s Chris and Nina Nugent, the honor comes less than a year after opening Goosefoot.
The modern, BYOB restaurant at 2656 West Lawrence Avenue, opened in December 2011.

“Chris and I never expected that we would get all these accolades,” Nina Nugent said. “We’re very humble and grateful, but it’s because of the guests—they’re the ones that make us successful.”
Michelin representatives called Chris Nugent with the news on Tuesday.

“It’s an honor and we’re humbled, but we need to keep up the great work and keep doing what we’ve been doing,” Nina Nugent said. “It’s a team effort. Everyone works very hard and we’re very proud of our team.”
Making people happy is the restaurant’s goal; the couple wanted to create a place for locals so they wouldn’t have to drive downtown for fine dining.
“We’re very thrilled to be doing something in our neighborhood,” she said. “I think what makes us enjoy what we’ve been doing is to see people come by and celebrate so many special occasions. I think it’s the best feeling ever.”
Goosefoot gets its name from a plant family connected to culinary staples like Swiss chard, epazote and quinoa. Its leaves resemble the foot of a goose.
Chicago Eater released a preview list of Chicago restaurants that earned a Michelin star; the full guide comes out Wednesday.
