Half Acre Beer Wins 'Pale Ale Smackdown'

'Chicago Magazine' was gracious enough to taste test microbrews from across the area and Half Acre Beer Company won first place for pale ale in a tie.

Chicago Magazine took on the enviable task of naming the best beers in the Chicago area — which now boasts more than 60 microbreweries — and Half Acre Beer Company's "Akari Shogun" emerged the winner.

A three-person panel of experts tied the Lincoln Avenue brewery with Lake Bluff Brewing Co.'s "gamma ray."

The competition was tough with other local breweries like Ravenswood's Spiteful Brewing, 5 Rabbit and Lincoln Park's Atlas in the mix.
