Lincoln Square Resident to Dance in "Singing in the Rain"

One of his favorite childhood movies is now his job. Actor Zach Zube joins the cast of "Singing in the Rain" at the Drury Lane Theater.

Imagine becoming an actor in your favorite childhood movie. That’s becoming the reality of Lincoln Square resident Zach Zube, who’s starring in “Singing in the Rain” at the Drury Lane Theater.

“This one has a special place,” Zube said. “It’s is one of the movies I watched when I was younger growing up and I really haven’t done any shows that I’ve loved since childhood.”

Zube is in the ensemble and understudy to Cosmo, the best friend to main character Don Lockwood.

Taking on the dancing and understudy role is a bit overwhelming, Zube said, but definitely worth the hard work.

The show runs from November to January at the Drury Lane Theater, 100 Drury Lane.

Although his work takes him into the suburbs, Zube chose Lincoln Square as his home. He’s lived there for four years and called Ravenswood and Northcenter home before that.

“There’s a lot to do, but it’s not as hectic and 24/7 as the other neighborhoods,” he said. “Especially as a performer, I’m always in a lot of stimulating environments with bright lights. I’ve found it’s kind of nice to come back to a neighborhood that’s a little more relaxed.”

Aside from acting, Zube is a yoga teacher at Bloom Yoga Studio on North Rockwell.

What started as a way to improve dance flexibility turned into a perfect balance to the hectic stage life.

“Career wise they compliment each other very well,” he said. “It offers me kind of the other side of life. Theater can be so sensory stimulating; it helps to keep me grounded.”

The 28-year-old has been acting since attending high school in Chicago Heights. He worked with the Director Bill Jenkins on the theater’s last production, “Seven Brides for Seven Brothers.”

He’s also been involved with “Thoroughly Modern Millie,” “Pippin” and “High School Musical.”
