Mariano's Construction Begins, January 2014 Opening Predicted

The new grocery store comes in a development that includes an L.A. Fitness and Sears Auto Center.

Architects predict a January 2014 opening for a new Mariano’s Fresh Market in Lincoln Square.

Construction for the grocery store began at Lawrence and Ravenswood avenues after the city council's approval in November.

The project’s architects said Mariano’s could be open on Jan. 15 of 2014.

The development includes an L.A. Fitness and Sears Auto Center in the same building as the grocery store. Ward 47 Ald. Ameya Pawar, who supported the project, said it would create 500 temporary and permanent jobs in the area.

Chicago city council approved the development 48-1 in November and $4.5 million in Tax Increment Financing will pay for about 10 percent of the building cost.

Construction will run parallel to a new Ravenswood Metra Station, 150 residential apartments and streetscape beautification on Lawrence.
