Monti’s Nabs Top Honors From Food Critic

A new sandwich joint in Lincoln Square has stolen the heart of one of Chicago's toughest food writers.

With threats of the world ending, Mike Sula wanted a sandwich. And not just any sandwich — one from Monti’s, a new venture in Lincoln Square.

Sula, the Chicago Reader’s lead food critic, said Monti’s was one of the most important new restaurants of the year

He first raved about their Philly cheesesteak, but it was their other 8 and 12-inch sandwiches that kept him returning to Lincoln Square.

“It’s one of the places that immediately comes to mind when I think of my favorite new restaurants of the year,” he wrote

Monti’s is the inspiration of husband and wife team James Gottwald and Jennifer Monti. They opened in 2012 and are located at 4757 N. Talman Ave.

Iliana Regan’s prix fixe restaurant, Elizabeth, also made Sula’s list of 2012's best restaurants.
