Photos: Amundsen Wrestling Earns Double Victory at Home
The wins give the team a good boost one month outside the city tournament.
The season is looking bright for Amundsen wrestlers, as two wins put the team over the .500 mark. The Vikings took on Nicholas Senn and Kelvyn high schools Tuesday at home.
The double victory puts Amundsen at 8-6 on the season. Head coach Tony Grygorzyk said he’s please with the team’s performance so far, especially in the lower weight classes. The team is missing a few upper weight positions, which cost them some close matches.
“We give up 24 points to every team we wrestle to start with,” he said. “I’m looking forward to the end of the season and seeing how we do in the city meet.”

Grygorzyk hopes to have several wrestlers place at the city meet Jan. 26 and 27.
Two of his wrestlers have a chance for a city championship, advancing to sectionals. Those two are his captains, juniors John and Jerry Flores. John Flores has a 12-0 undefeated record, while Jerry Flores is 15-1.

“They’re natural leaders, they work hard all the time and motivate people on the team,” Grygorzyk said.
The two also join seniors David Chavez and Emanuel Antunes in getting more people out to watch the matches.
The Vikings take on Lane Tech Thursday at home for their next contest.
