Traveling Mosaic to Appear at Northcenter Chamber

A piece of artwork dedicated to the area's older adults will be in display at the chamber along with other local artists' work.

Older residents in Northcenter and Lincoln Square are showing off a piece of artwork dedicated entirely to them.

The exhibit, titled “Roots of Our Community” stems from a partnership between the Senior Artists Network, Chicago Mosaic School and Ward 47 Ald. Ameya Pawar’s office.

The Chicago Mosaic School approached the Ward 47 office with the idea of creating a mosaic that honored the area’s older adults. More than 30 senior citizens volunteered to put the 2-by-3-foot piece together.

When the piece was done, the ward invited other artists to display their work with the goal of uniting neighbors.

The piece debuts at the Northcenter Chamber of Commerce on Friday at 4054 N. Lincoln Ave.

The Chicago Mosaic School and seven other artists will host a reception Jan. 10 at the Chamber office from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

The mosaic has been traveling through the ward, previously displayed at Dolce Casa Café in Lincoln Square.
