2 Adults, 1 Baby Injured In 2-Car Crash At US 52, Smith Road
The crash happened at the intersection of US 52 and Smith Road Wednesday around 4 p.m.
MANHATTAN, IL — Two adults and one baby suffered minor injuries in a two-car crash at US 52 and Smith Road late Wednesday afternoon.
A car traveling southbound on US 52 was approaching in the intersection at Smith Road around 4 p.m., when the driver attempted to pass cars awaiting a left turn at the intersection. The southbound car struck a car turning left onto southbound 52, said Manhattan Police Commander Mike Holford.
The southbound car attempting to pass then slid into a ditch and "rolled multiple times," according to Manhattan Fire Protection District Chief Steve Malone. Two people—including a baby in that car—were taken to Silver Cross Hospital, Malone said. One person in the other car was also taken to Silver Cross.

Reports that a child had been ejected from the car were proved to be unfounded, Holford said. It appeared the child had been either dislodged from the car seat, or had not been properly secured, but was still inside the car, Holford said.
Traffic was stopped and redirected for about a half hour following the crash.
