2 Dead In Wrong-Way Crash In Kankakee: Coroner

The crash happened just after 9 p.m. on Monday, May 20.

KANKAKEE, IL — Two people were killed Monday night in a wrong-way crash on Illinois State Route 17 in Kankakee, the coroner's office said Tuesday.

Just after 9 p.m. May 20, a Mitsubishi Mirage driven by Jose Gayton Gonzalez, 60, of Kankakee was westbound and traveling in the wrong direction, when it struck an eastbound Ford Fiesta driven by Andrew Koster, 28, of St. Anne. Both were pronounced dead at the scene, the Kankakee County Coroner's Office said Tuesday. Autopsies on both individuals are scheduled for May 21.

A juvenile passenger of the Ford Fiesta was treated and released at a local hospital.

The crash is under investigation by the Kankakee County Coroner’s Office and Illinois State Police Troop 5.
