Mother, 4-Year-Old Dead In Apparent Murder-Suicide: Manhattan Police

The 39-year-old woman and her 4-year-old son were found dead inside a Manhattan home Friday afternoon.

MANHATTAN, IL — Two people found dead inside a Manhattan home Friday afternoon have been identified as a woman and her 4-year-old son, officials said Saturday.

The Will County Coroner identified the woman Sarah Durkin, 39, of Manhattan, and police confirmed her 4-year-old son, whose name was not released, was also found dead. The two died in what police say was an apparent murder-suicide Friday afternoon.

The bodies of the woman and toddler were found inside the home in the 700 block of 3rd Street at 2:45 p.m. Friday in what appeared to be a murder-suicide, police said. Final cause and manner of death will be determined by the Will County Coroner.

Manhattan police are conducting a death investigation.

"Our sincere condolences go out to the family and their friends," police said.
