Girl, 9, And Grandmother, 53, Killed In Crash Near Manteno: Coroner

The accident happened at 12000 North Road and Illinois Route 50 Thursday afternoon.

KANKAKEE COUNTY, IL.— A 9-year-old girl and her grandmother died Thursday afternoon after a crash near Manteno, the Kankakee County Coroner said Thursday night

The accident happened Thursday at 12:48 p.m. at the intersection of 12000 North Road and Illinois Route 50, just north of Manteno.

A preliminary investigation showed that a 2017 Honda Civic driven by Lisa M. Dome, 53, of Wilmington, was eastbound on 12000 North Road and failed to stop at a stop sign. The Honda Civic was then struck by a southbound 2018 Ford F-150 pick-up truck. Dome was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:30 p.m. by the Kankakee County Coroner's Office.

A passenger in Dome's car—identified as Dome's 9-year-old granddaughter Weylen R. Cadorette—was extricated by the Manteno Fire Department and taken to Riverside Medical Center, where she later died. An autopsy on Dome will be performed on March 29.

The driver of the Ford F-150 sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

The incident remains under investigation by the Kankakee County Coroner’s Office and Illinois State Police Troop 5.
