Happy Birthday Manhattan! You Don't Look a Day Over 129
Join in the party as Manhattan celebrates 130 years, the historical society marks its 30th, and the museum turns 2.

MANHATTAN, IL — Come out and celebrate Manhattan’s 130th birthday at a museum open house.
That’s right — the village has hit the big 1-3-0, and it’s not the only one having a birthday. The Manhattan Township Historical Society is marking its 30th year and the society’s museum is turning 2.
“Did you know that Manhattan once had more than one movie theater and a dance hall?” the historical society asks on its Facebook page. “Do you know where the tile factory was located?”

And the society is prepared to answer those questions during the open house’s free exhibit. The exhibit will explore each decade of Manhattan’s history since its incorporation in 1886, and refreshments will be served.
The open house at the 255 S. State St. museum runs from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 22. For further information, contact the historical society ManhattanHistorical@yahoo.com or check out its Facebook page.
