Manhattan To Break Ground On $485K Water, Sewer Project
Officials will break ground Oct. 10 for water and sewer lines that will support a new fire station and public works facility.
MANHATTAN, IL — Manhattan officials on Monday announced the upcoming start of construction on a significant water and sewer infrastructure project.
The installation of new water and sewer lines will support the future sites of the Manhattan Fire Protection District and Village of Manhattan Public Works facility, to be located at Eastern Avenue and Smith Road.
"This project marks a pivotal step in enhancing essential services for our community," officials said in a release.

"The installation of new water and sewer lines will not only support the operations of the Manhattan Fire Protection District but also lay the groundwork for the forthcoming Public Works Facility, ensuring that our public services can efficiently meet the needs of our growing population," the release reads.
The $485,000 infrastructure project is funded by Will County American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds.

"We are thrilled to begin this much needed infrastructure project, which represents our commitment to working together with our taxing partners to save residents money," said Mayor Mike Adrieansen. "Thanks to the support from Will County Executive Jennifer Bertino-Tarrant and the Will County Board for providing ARPA funds. We can enhance our community’s infrastructure and improve public safety while also promoting economic development in our area."
The groundbreaking is set for Oct. 10 at 3:30 p.m. Construction is anticipated to begin shortly after the ceremony, with completion aimed for early 2025.
