Missing Manhattan Man's Body Pulled From Water In Coal City: Coroner

The body was found in the water early Saturday morning at CECO Recreation Club in Coal City.

COAL CITY, IL — A body pulled from a lake Saturday morning at CECO Recreation Club in Coal City has been identified as missing Manhattan man Anthony Fehrenbacher.

Grundy County Coroner John Callahan's office confirmed the man's identity Saturday afternoon. Fehrenbacher, 47, had been missing since May 26.

Officials responded early Saturday morning to a report of a body floating in water at the recreation club, 1210 N. Dresden Rd., Grundy County Sheriff Ken Briley said.

The death is being investigated as possible foul play by the Grundy County Sheriff's Office and Grundy County Coroner's Office, Briley said. The Grundy County Sheriff's Office said it appears to be an isolated incident and there is no threat to the public.

An autopsy is expected to be completed Sunday.

The area where Fehrenbacher's body was found is part of a gated recreation association.

'This Is Not Him': Search Ongoing For Missing Manhattan Man

"At this point, this is little to no information to be released regarding this investigation," the coroner's office said in a release.

Manhattan Police Chief Jeff Wold released a statement following the development.

"We are sad to report the Anthony Fehrenbacher missing person case concluded this morning when a boater reported a male floating in the CECO Recreation Club lake in Grundy County," Wold said. "The male was identified as Anthony Fehrenbacher. The Grundy County Coroner's Office and Grundy County Sheriff's Office will handle the death investigation. The Manhattan police will cooperate with Grundy County as this case moves forward.

"We offer our most sincere condolences to Tony's family and friends."
