Mother, Son Killed When Car Careens Into Creek In Manteno Township

A 37-year-old woman and her 18-year-son died early Monday in a single-car crash in Manteno Township.

MANTENO TOWNSHIP, IL — A mother and her 18-year-old son died early Monday in a single-car crash in Manteno Township, the Kankakee County Coroner said Tuesday.

At 4:55 a.m. May 20, an SUV driven by Earnest L. Fisher of Iowa, was westbound near 6500 East on 12000 North Road, when it crossed the center line, then driving down a bank and into a creek.

Two passengers—identified as Tiana S. Stewart, 37, of Woodstock, and her 18-year-old son Romel Stewart, of Elgin—were pronounced dead at the scene.

Fisher was taken to Riverside Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries, the coroner's office said.

The crash is under investigation by the Kankakee County Coroner’s Office and Will County Sheriff’s Department.
