Random Acts Of Kindness Day 2022: Manhattan Neighbors Give Thanks

Patch asked Manhattan readers, "What's the nicest thing a neighbor has done for you?" Here are some of the responses we got.

MANHATTAN, IL — Thursday is Random Acts of Kindness Day. Manhattan residents on social media are likely to see their feeds full of #MakeKindnessTheNorm, the theme for this year.

Patch asked Manhattan residents on Facebook, "What's the nicest thing a neighbor has done for you?" A few of the responses we got were so inspirational that we thought we'd share them with you, dear readers.

  • Gail Schaefer: Had great neighbors for 35 years who helped fix our computer, watered our garden & watched over our house when we were out of town, helped shovel our driveway, shared carpool duties with me, etc. Recently moved & hoping to develop the same kinds of friendships in our new neighborhood.
  • Trina M Wagner: Great neighbors. Had our leaves raked, drive way shoveled, they watched our house and got our mail when my parents died within months of each other. The whole family so many things to even count. We are blessed.
  • Becky Hunt: Everything best Neighbors ever Love them.
  • Jeff Sandowski: Cut my grass after emergency surgery.
  • Denise Ellis: Neighbor Cheryl Dakin Sarcinelli UmmEVERYTHING!!
  • Cheryl Leugoud Donovan: Literally everything- Denise Garrett Otway.
  • Rachel Ditmars: Snowplowed my drive way after a winter snow storm<3

The Denver-based Random Acts of Kindness Foundation's first RAK Day was in 1995. The small nonprofit's initiative caught on, was celebrated in New Zealand by 2004 and has since been celebrated around the world as a way for people to show kindness to others in small, simple ways.
