5 Mokena Nonprofits To Support This Holiday Season

MOKENA, IL — If you’re like many of your Mokena neighbors, you may spend a good part of the holiday season with your credit card in hand buying gifts for family and friends. Coming up soon is a chance to give back to the local community.
Giving Tuesday, which in 2024 falls on Dec. 3, is a day dedicated to supporting nonprofit and community groups. Since 2012, nonprofits worldwide have used the Tuesday after Thanksgiving to galvanize fundraising, rally volunteers and add momentum to their causes.
Maintaining funding is a constant challenge for many nonprofits that fill gaps and meet other needs in the Mokena area.

1. Mokena Miracles: A nonprofit organization of Mokena first responders and residents trying to make a difference in Mokena residents' lives. Their goal is to bring help and happiness to those who need it during the holidays season. They aim to assist Mokena families in times of need, who are facing difficult challenges like financial or medical setbacks. Find out more and how to donate.
2. NAWS, A No-Kill Humane Society: NAWS is a 501c3 no-kill humane society with a mission to change the face of animal welfare. NAWS is fully committed to working toward spaying and neutering all dogs and cats. The society provides those surgeries in our Animal Clinic at a low cost to everyone. NAWS also rehomes over 2,500 homeless pets each year, and pride themselves on the fact that many of its adoptions are for senior or medical needs pets. 3. Frankfort Township Food Pantry: The Food Pantry is available to Frankfort Township residents only and is appointment based. The Food Pantry is located on the northeast lower level of the building. The pantry assists families in need in Frankfort, Mokena, and parts of Tinley Park and Orland Park. Each month, families of Frankfort Township are given assistance thought the generosity of donations from the community. Find out more.
4. Nature Foundation of Will County: For nearly a decade, the Nature Foundation of Will County has worked to raise funds for the preservation and promotion of Will County’s Forest Preserve District. The funds raised by this organization go towards educational nature programs, art initiatives, public amenities and exhibitions. Learn more at willcountynature.org/.
5. United Way of Will County: Dedicated to promoting the safety, health and education of Will County residents, this organization provides programs and services to help people succeed. The United Way of Will County offers support through a disaster relief fund, emergency food and shelter and youth literacy programs.
