Beware Door-To-Door Scams: Village

Village of Mokena issues warning to residents about utility company imposters.

MOKENA, IL — The Village of Mokena sent a warning to residents via text message July 19, cautioning them to be on the lookout for potential scammers posing as utility workers.

Scams such as this one involve an imposter showing up at a resident's home to distract the resident while other people make their way into the home to steal money and belongings.

The message from the Village included a link to a ComEd news release with additional tips, including:

  • Never give out personal information or agree to make a payment to someone visiting a residence or business;
  • Identify ComEd employees by its company logo and ID badge on the person's shirt;
  • When in doubt, call (800) EDISON-1 (800-334-7661) to report a scam.
