Hickory Creek Bridge Reopened: Officials

The bridge over Hickory Creek in Mokena had been closed off Monday because of flooding.

MOKENA, IL — The bridge over Hickory Creek in the Hickory Creek Preserve - LaPorte Road Access in Mokena was reopened Tuesday after heavy rain and flooding forced the Forest Preserve of Will County to close it off Monday, according to forest preserve spokesperson Cindy Cain.

Hickory Creek Preserve - LaPorte Road access is just east of Wolf Road in Mokena. The bridge had been under water Monday, Cain said. Caution tape had been placed on both sides of the bridge to alert people on the trail, she said.

The back island at Monee Reservoir remains closed due to high water and the bridge leading to the island is roped off, according to the forest preserve. The rest of the preserve is open, but the lake's water level is high, so people should use caution if they venture out to the site for shoreline fishing or rent a boat at the visitor center.
