Man Shot In Shoulder While Sitting In Car: Mokena Police

The 32-year-old victim told police he was shot by a masked suspect who asked to see his phone before shooting him and fleeing on foot.

MOKENA, IL — A 32-year-old man was shot in the shoulder while sitting in his car after a masked assailant approached him, asked to see his phone, and shot him before fleeing on Friday night, Mokena Police said on Saturday.

Police were called to the 19500 block of Glennell Avenue just after 8 p.m. after being told someone had been shot. The victim told police that he was sitting in his car when the masked suspect approached and asked to see his phone. Police said that the victim had a gunshot wound to his shoulder and was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police Chief Brian Benton said that witness accounts were inconsistent and that officers are continuing to investigate the incident. The suspect fled the area on foot and police believe that it appears the shooting is an isolated incident and do not believe there is an ongoing threat to the community.
