Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize Star Students, and we’re working to tell the stories of these outstanding kids to their neighbors.

Why do you believe the star local student should be recognized?
Luke is a competitive archer who is setting National Records (he currently holds 5 National Records) in the Under 18 division, and has world rankings in all ages (against the pros). At 16 years old he has incredible work ethic and desire to be successful. Not only does he come home from school and practice for a couple of hours a day, but he also is in 3 Honors Classes and works hard to maintain his grades—even achieving Honor Roll. Luke is currently trying to make the USA Team (as a 16-year-old!), so his tournament schedule is aggressive and requires a lot of travel which means absences from school. So he is always working hard to make up missed tests and quizzes and turn in homework. He also volunteers at the Joliet Archery Club, assisting the board members with setting up shooting courses, and helping younger kids develop a passion and proficiency for archery. He is also currently job hunting to help offset travel expenses. As flights and hotel stays take their toll on the family. This young man epitomizes drive, ambition, work ethic, and kindness.
What's one thing you want everyone to know about the star local student?
He is extremely humble and will never brag about himself—instead, he will up other youth and help them improve. He is currently ranked 15th in the world for all ages in Barebow Recurve.
Congratulations on your achievements, and all of our best wishes to you in the future, Luke!
