Mokena Contractor Sentenced For Swindling Home Repair Customers

He's accused of taking nearly $30,000 for projects he never completed and providing a fraudulent liability certificate to one customer.

MOKENA, IL — The owner of a Mokena home repair company received two five-year sentences — to be served concurrently — in Cook and Will counties after he pleaded guilty to defrauding customers out of thousands of dollars and failing to complete projects.

Nicholas Giuffre, 51, of Avondale, Arizona, owned and operated MDH Concrete and Construction Inc. in Mokena. He was prosecuted by the office of Attorney General Kwame Raoul.

In June 2023, he was charged in connection with allegations he entered into agreements with five homeowners, accepting a total of $28,875 for projects he did not complete. Giuffre also provided a fraudulent Certificate of Liability to one of his victims, according to officials.

"Homeowners should not have to worry about whether remodeling work they pay for will be completed to their satisfaction – or completed at all," Raoul said. "I am committed to continuing to hold accountable individuals who take advantage of consumers by taking money and not performing the work promised."

Giuffre was sentenced to five years in prison by Cook County Circuit Court Judge Ursula Walowski and five years in prison by Will County Circuit Court Judge Jessica Colon-Sayre.

Consumers who believe they have been the victim of fraud can file a complaint on the Attorney General’s website or by calling the Consumer Fraud Hotline at 1-800-386-5438.

Assistant Attorney General Maryanne Mlikotic handled the cases against Giuffre for Raoul’s Criminal Consumer Fraud Unit.
