Mokena Elementary Unveils New Central Playground For Students
The new playground includes more than 12,000 square feet of poured rubber surfacing and includes multiple structures and bridges to climb.

MOKENA, IL – Mokena Elementary School students will soon have a new playground to enjoy after years of countless students enjoying the Imagination Station playground at the school.
On Thursday, district officials unveiled a new playground at the school with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The new playground has been built to honor the legacy of volunteers who donated more than 8,000 hours to construct the Imagination Station playground 26 years ago, district officials said.
The new playground was built by a contractor hired by the district. The new playground is metal and composite, officials said.

For the last 26 years the Imagination Station has been a fixture in the Mokena community, officials said, providing play opportunities for tens of thousands of students as well as being an attraction for many families during the summer months.
However, district officials said that as time has gone by, the wooden structure has begun to succumb to the elements. In the summer of 2024, the Imagination Station will make way for a new play area for the students at Mokena Intermediate School.

In preparation for this transition, Mokena Elementary School will introduce the opening of its new Central Playground on Thursday, built to honor the legacy of the many volunteers 26 years ago, the new Central Playground has multiple structures with bridges to cross, features to climb, and more than 12,000 square feet of poured rubber safety surfacing.
District officials said that the beautiful new park is designed to provide the next generation of Mokena students with the same memories that Mokena Elementary students have had over the years.
