Mokena Fire Chief To Retire In November

Mokena Fire Protection District Chief Howard Stephens will retire effective Nov. 30.

MOKENA, IL — Mokena Fire Protection District announced the upcoming retirement of Chief Howard Stephens effective Nov. 30, according to a press release from MFPD.

Assistant Deputy Chief/Deputy Administrator Joseph Cirelli will be promoted to chief, the press release stated. Assistant Chief Richard Campbell will assume the rank and duties of assistant chief/deputy administrator.

"I thank everyone associated with the MFPD for all their efforts in assisting the District in our never-ending quest to remain good stewards of the taxpayer's funds and to deliver Emergency Services in an efficient manner," Stephens was quoted in the press release. "I will depart knowing that the MFPD is in sound financial standings, and I am excited to see what lies ahead for this great Fire District with a new leader."

Stephens has served as chief for the past nine years.
