Mokena Shooting May Have Been Drug-Related: Police

Police continue to search for a suspect who police said shot a 32-year-old man after the masked assailant asked to see the man's phone.

MOKENA, IL — The shooting of a man while he was sitting in his car on Friday night may have been drug-related and police are continuing to search for a suspect, police said on Monday.

The victim, a 32-year-old man, was treated and released from a local hospital after police said that he was shot in the shoulder just after 8 p.m. on Friday. Police said that the shooting took place in the 19500 block of Glennell Avenue after being told someone had been shot.

The victim told police that he was sitting in his car when the masked suspect approached and asked to see his phone. Police Chief Brian Benton said that witness accounts were inconsistent and that officers are continuing to investigate the incident.
