Putt-Putt Between the Stacks
Children and teens in grades 4–12 took part in the Mokena Community Public Library's first ever mini-golf event on Wednesday, July 25. More than 40 attendees took their swings between the stacks during the hour-long event.
The invited children and teens to take a swing at a brand new event: mini-golf. The hour-long mini-golf extravaganza took place, Wednesday, July 25, with more than 40 children and teens taking part in the 9-hole course.
“This is pretty much what we were hoping for,” said Luke Surdel, an employee at the library who helped plan the event. “We figured this would be a nice summer reading program. During the summer reading program we do a lot of really fun programs.”
Each hole of the event featured a different theme, with children volunteers dressing up as Spider-Man, Super Mario, Abe Lincoln, Dorothy and more. Surdel said the volunteers were dressed up and the holes' themed to remind attendees that the library offers a wide array of books, suitable for all ages.

“We tried to get each hole somewhat themed. We have the Spider-Man theme, a Halloween hole, the Dorthy hole,” Surdel said. “They're all just based on books you can find at the library.”
