Southwest Suburban Grad and Service Dog Both Don Cap and Gown

Orland Park's Bridget Evans and her service dog Hero make a splash across the Internet.

Spina bifida may have put Bridget Evans of Orland Park in a wheelchair, but that didn't stop her from advancing toward her dream. She credits her dog, Hero, for helping her navigate the physical terrain of the University of Illinois campus in Urbana-Champaign.

In her eyes, the Master's degree she earned from the College of Applied Health Sciences last weekend was proof that a service-trained canine can help overcome obstacles. He never left her side, she said.

In fact, he joined in the graduation ceremony too. Both Evans and Hero donned matching caps and gowns.
