There’s Still Time To Catch Fall Festivals Near Mokena

MOKENA, IL — Fall is a great time to get outside in Illinois and take in the rich offering of festivals.
The changing colors of autumn provide a scenic background for fall and harvest festivals, which have contests ranging from apple bobbing and pumpkin carving to lumberjack contests and Halloween parades.
Fall is also the season for corn mazes, pumpkin patches and apple orchard visits.

Here are a few festivals and events in and around Mokena worth putting on the calendar:
- Rock and Roll Silent Disco - 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Oct. 15 at Village Commons of New Lenox. $5 per person, includes headphone rental and skate rental.
- Scarecrow Invasion Begins At Mokena Businesses - On display throughout October at various Mokena businesses. Sponsored by the Mokena Chamber of Commerce.
- Warning To Crows: Scarecrows On Parade Set To Return In Manhattan - On display along U.S. Route 52 in Manhattan between Oct. 17 and Oct 31.
- Costumed Characters Invited To Run In Scary At The Prairie 5K - Check-in at 9:30 a.m. Oct. 22 at Breidert Green Park in downtown Frankfort. Same-day registration is $20 per event.
- New Lenox Preparing For Scarecrow Stroll At Village Commons - On display from Oct. 24 through Nov. 2 at the Village Commons in New Lenox.
- Trunk Or Treat, E.F. Bucko Costume Parade Set For Oct. 29 In Frankfort - Free event. 10 a.m. to noon at the Breidert Green Municipal lot in downtown Frankfort.
- Holli-Daze Arts And Crafts Show Returns To Frankfort For 47th Year - 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct 29 and Oct. 30 at Lincoln-Way East High School, 201 Colorado Ave. in Frankfort. $5 admission for those ages 12 and up. Sponsored by the Mokena Woman's Club.
- Costumed Characters, Heated Igloos Coming To Creamery In New Lenox - 918 Timber Place in New Lenox. Up first on the special guest list is Moana, the title character from the popular 2016 Disney movie. She's scheduled to appear from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 30.
- Costumed Characters, Heated Igloos Coming To Creamery In Manhattan - 525 W. North St. in Manhattan. Up first on the special guest list is Captain Jack Sparrow of "Pirates of the Caribbean" fame. He's scheduled to appear from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 30.
