Thousands Of Pounds Of Pet Food Donated To Mokena's NAWS
Plainfield-based TR Miller Heating, Cooling and Plumbing ran a food drive, donating 10 pounds of food for every $89 A/C tune-up.

MOKENA, IL — Mokena's NAWS has been gifted thousands of pounds of pet food, courtesy of a Plainfield business.
In April, TR Miller announced a food drive that would raise 10 pounds of pet food for every A/C
tune-up the company performed from April 15 to July 31.
The total raised amounted to 12,000 pounds, to be donated among three local area shelters: NAWS of Mokena, ADOPT of Naperville, and Wags 2 Wishes of Plainfield. The food is split based off of the number of animals at each shelter, ensuring that each shelter gets the proper amount.

In its second year, this efforts brings the total pet food raised to over 23,000 pounds.

The donation is important to the business' owners, brothers Brian and Jim Sloan. Their mother volunteered frequently at local animal shelters, until her death following a cancer battle last year.

“My brother and I always joked that our mom loved animals more than people, so I don’t think
there is a better way to honor her legacy than through working with shelters,” said Brian Sloan,
owner of TR Miller. “We’re a community driven organization, and giving back to the community
that supports us is part of our core values.”

Between their facilities and foster family networks, these shelters have over 1,000 cats and dogs
in their care. Along with strays, many of their animals come from shelters where they otherwise
would have been euthanized.
"The partnership with TR Miller has been very beneficial for us because keeping expenses down is a huge thing for not-for-profits and food is a big one,” said Becca Keller, Director of Development at NAWS. “Keeping the animals fed and thriving until they get into their new home is our goal."
TR Miller is planning on continuing the program for years to come.Get more local news delivered straight to your inbox. Sign up for free Patch newsletters and alerts.
