Beautification Committee Seeks Green Thumbs to Add to its Roster

The volunteer non-profit organization is dedicated to the pursuit of beautifying the community.

Have a green thumb and your own lawn is already impeccable? Consider sharing your talents with the Montgomery Beautification Committee.

The committee is seeking community members interested in helping to make the village more attractive and inviting.

“In these kinds of economic times beautification is one of the things we can all do together that doesn’t cost a lot of money to add real value to the community,” said Trustee Stan Bond, a co-chair of the committee. “I think now is the right time for that. We can all do what we can to make the community a nice place to be.”

Committee members improve the beauty of the village's neighborhoods by planting and maintaining flowers and flower beds, and hanging banners.

In years past, the village regularly hosted a popular holiday decorations recognition program.

“But that fell by the wayside,” Bond said. “We’re looking to reinstitute that and we need volunteer judges.”

Committee members are also considering a summer landscaping recognition program.

“There had been some talk about doing that but it never quite got off the ground so we’re looking to implement that as well,” Bond said.

Another priority for committee members? Sprucing up the village’s entryways, especially a parcel of land which Bond said is really just “an elevated mound of grass” at Route 31 and Webster Street.

“We’re looking to see if we can’t bring that idea of it being an entryway into the village back to life with some flower beds,” he said.

The next Montgomery Beautification Committee meeting will be held at 6 p.m. at Village Hall, 200 N. River St.
