Montgomery Man Assaults Deputy, Passing Motorists Help the Law: Sheriff

Two motorists stopped to help a Kendall County Sheriff's deputy who was fighting with a suspect on Briar Cliff Road recently.
Now a Montgomery man faces multiple charges following his arrest on Sunday, March 31, at 12:06 a.m., said the Kendall County Sheriff’s office.
Juan Carlos Padilla, 24, of the 0-100 block of Briarcliff Road, Montgomery, was charged with aggravated battery, resisting a peace officer, fleeing a police officer, possession of cannabis (30.1 grams of hashish) and two in-state warrants: one out of Kendall County for failure to appear for a battery charge and one out of Kane County for obstructing justice.

Kendall Sheriff’s deputies attempted to stop Padilla’s vehicle at Douglas and Fernwood Roads, Oswego, after witnessing him disobey a traffic control device. The vehicle continued westbound on Fernwood and did not stop for police, said the Sheriff’s office. The pursuit ended in the 0-100 block of Briar Cliff Road where the driver, identified as Padilla, attempted to leave the scene.
When the pursuing deputy attempted to confront Padilla, he became violent and a fight occurred. Two passing motorists stopped to help the deputy as the altercation went to the ground, and Padilla was secured and arrested.

Padilla is currently in custody at the Kendall County Corrections Center with a total bond of $82,500.
