Justin Pacheco, the assistant general manager at the Owego LA Fitness, said that Valentine came in and inquired about the cost of gym membership.

He noted that Valentine was "kinda fishy"; the man smelled like liquor and had a black eye. "At first I thought he was homeless," Pacheco said. "...Right away I knew something was going on."

Valentine explained how he had just gotten into a fight with his girlfriend and he needed a place to warm up. Pacheco said Valentine's hands were cold when he felt them.

A Kendall County Deputy found Valentine while he was still talking with Pacheco and escorted him out of the gym. Valentine resisted arrest, according to the Sheriff's Department. Valentine and a deputy were transported to Rush Copley Hospital in Aurora for treatment of injuries that were not life threatening.

Valentine, a 38-year-old from Montgomery, has been charged with domestic battery and aggravated resisting a peace officer. The Kendall County Sheriff's Department and the Oswego Police Department are still investigating the incident and additional charges are possible.
