Montgomery's Bluebird House Project Returns
Volunteers are needed to assist with monitoring the patterns of the birds, sightings of the birds, etc.

The following was provided by the village of Montgomery
The Village’s Beautification Committee is once again seeking volunteers to assist with the committee’s bluebird house endeavor.
Whereas last year bluebird house kits were purchased and residents helped build the structures, this year approximately 30 fully assembled houses are being purchased and will be installed along the existing houses by the Public Works staff.

However, volunteers are being sought to assist with monitoring the patterns of the birds, sightings of the birds, etc. This would be ideal for anyone interested in birds and birding.
In addition, the program also needs volunteers to help manage the birdhouses once they are installed—instead of adopting a highway, adopt a bluebird house! This would include observing them from time to time to alert the Village to any vandalism or repair needs, cleaning the house in the spring as bluebirds prefer to start with a clean nesting place each year, and helping to photograph these beautiful creatures.

Bluebirds especially like mealworms for food, and volunteers will also be needed to manage feeding stations to initially help attract migrating bluebirds to once again make their home in Montgomery.
Bluebirds like to be near water, tall grass and within easy flight range of trees. The Village’s naturalized areas, water basins, river bank and river island areas, and the Parkview Estates water management areas are where the structures are located.
