Montgomery Seeks to Fill Vacancies on Village Boards and Commissions

The Village of Montgomery is seeking people interested in serving on the Village Board, Plan Commission, Comprehensive Plan Committee and Historic Preservation Commission. 

Applicants must live within the corporate limits of Montgomery.  The available positions are described below:

  • Board of Trustees: This vacancy on the Village Board is due to the recent election of a current Trustee, Matt Brolley, to serve as the new Village President.  An appointment will be made to fill the remainder of Brolley’s term as Trustee, which runs through April 2015.  Requirements for this position are to attend two Village Board Meetings each month and two Committee of the Whole Meetings, plus any Special Board Meetings or Committee Meetings as scheduled, and to actively participate in Village events.  Meetings typically are held at 7:00 p.m. on weekdays.  Trustees set policy and make decisions on all aspects of Village government.  Trustees receive a salary of $600 per month.
  • Plan Commission: There will be two new vacancies on Montgomery’s Plan Commission, due to the recent election of Plan Commissioners Steve Jungermann and Theresa Sperling to the Village Board.  Plan Commissioners provide guidance and direction related to the growth and development of the Village.  The Plan Commission meets monthly on the second or third Thursday of the month at 7:00 p.m.  Commissioners are paid $35 for each meeting they attend.
  • Comprehensive Plan Committee: This is a new committee being formed to work on the creation of a new Comprehensive Plan for the Village.  The committee will meet three to five times between now and the end of the year to create a vision for the future development of Montgomery.  This is a volunteer position.
  • Historic Preservation Commission: The Village also has a vacancy on the Historic Preservation Commission (HPC).  The HPC meets on the third Monday of each month at 6:30 p.m.  The HPC operates the Settler’s Cottage Museum located in front of the Village Hall and generally works to preserve and promote Montgomery’s history.  This is a volunteer position.
