Nicholson Elementary Donates Historic Items To Village

When Nicholson Elementary School wanted to move out several bins of old photos and records that were taking up space but were too important to dispose of, they contacted the Montgomery Village Hall and the Historic Preservation Committee to see about donating the items.

Montgomery’s Historic Preservation Commission accepts historical items to be entered into their collection and used in future displays in the local historical museum, Settler’s Cottage. They were very happy to accept all the items donated by the school, including old class photos, yearbooks, PTA records, movie reels, and other memorabilia from decades past. Included in the donated items was an original oil painting depicting the Mill Street Bridge by Phillip Basieur, a local artist whose family lived on Webster Street for many decades.

“We’re so grateful that Nicholson School decided to donate these items to our collection,” said Debbie Buchanan, staff liaison to the Commission. “We are always happy to accept old photos and other items from anyone who has these types of items from Montgomery’s past so we can preserve and share them with the community.”
