Shotgun Fired Into Neighbor's House, Felon Arrested: Police

The neighbor, a convicted felon, told police the shotgun went off while he was cleaning it.

MONTGOMERY, IL — A Montgomery man is charged with possession of a firearm by a felon and reckless discharge after his neighbor found six gunshot holes in a closet on Monday night.

Montgomery police responded to the 1700 block of Stonegate Drive just before 10 p.m. after a resident said they came home to find six gunshot holes in an upstairs closet.

Police said an investigation determined the shotgun blast came from a neighbor's house. Police contacted the neighbor, 45-year-old Derrick S. Porter, who told officers he was cleaning a shotgun when "it accidentally went off" and hit a wall.

No one was hurt in the incident.

Porter was taken to the Kane County Jail.
