Village Will Flush Fire Hydrants During Day For 3, 1 Week Phases

MONTGOMERY, IL — The village will begin flushing water mains across the area and in the unincorporated Boulder Hill subdivision beginning Sept. 13 and stretching the next three weeks, officials announced Tuesday.

The Montgomery Public Works Department will begin flushing each hydrant on Monday morning and continue until "each area is complete," according to a spokeswoman for the village. Occasional flushing keeps water mains clear from sediment and allows fire officials to verify which hydrants may need repair.

According to officials, residents shouldn't wash their laundry while a fire hydrant is being flushed near their home since the water may come out as discolored during the process. People should also run their cold-water without a strainer to clean out any sediment that could enter the water lines in their home.

Residents are recommended to take those precautions for nearly 11 hours each day from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. based on this schedule from the village:

Week of Sept. 13: All areas east of Orchard Road to Hill Avenue, including Parkview Estates, and north of Route 30 to Ashland Avenue.

Week of Sept. 20: Entirety of Unincorporated Boulder Hill, which officials say will take about two weeks to flush entirely; south of Route 30 to Circle Drive West and Route 25 to Douglas Road. The encompassed villages will be Montgomery, Lakewood Creek West, Fairfield Way and Foxmoor.

Week of Sept. 27: All subdivisions west of Orchard Road to Big Bend Road; Galena Road to Jericho Road, including Montgomery Crossings, Lakewood Creek, Blackberry Crossing, Blackberry Crossing West, Huntington Chase, Balmorea, Orchard Prairie North and Saratoga Springs. Boulder Hill flushing will continue into this week as well.
