Naperville Considers Property Tax Hike

The average homeowner could pay $24 more on the city's portion of their property tax bill.

Homeowners could pay more to the city of Naperville next year in property taxes.

For the first time in four years, Naperville is seeking to levy a total of $24 million as the city faces a $12.7 million budget gap, according to the Daily Herald. That means the average homeowner would see a $24 increase in the amount they pay in property taxes to the city.

The city has lowered its levy since 2010, the Daily Herald reports. The main reason for the increase has to do debt payments, which are set to increase by $3 million in next year’s budget, according to the newspaper.
