Bash Your Pumpkin To Bits At New Lenox Pumpkin Smash 2025
The Village will host its 3rd annual Pumpkin Smash on Saturday, Nov. 8.
NEW LENOX, IL — After Halloween, that lovingly designed and meticulously carved pumpkin might be left to collapse into a slimy pile of goo on the porch, be tossed to the wildlife or trash can—or maybe perhaps something much more ... cathartic? Aggressive? Fun? Messy?
Really, probably a mix of all of the above.
The Village will again host its Pumpkin Smash, set for Saturday, Nov. 8 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the New Lenox Village Commons, as a method to beat your prized orange baby into bits.

Composting pumpkins instead of sending them to landfills not only reduces the amount of waste in landfills, but also reduces greenhouse gas emissions and the amount of water in landfills, where it has to be monitored to avoid groundwater contamination, the Village said in a release.
Guests can bring any pumpkins that they are looking to dispose of, whether carved or uncarved. Painted pumpkins are permitted—the majority of acrylic paints are compostable. Pumpkins may not contain any contaminants, such as candles, plastic pieces, or stickers. The Village will have a station where these items can be removed from pumpkins.

For those who wish to simply drop off their pumpkins for composting, there will be a designated space to pull your vehicle over and hand 'em over. This drop-off zone will be located at Veterans Parkway and Gear near the digital marquee sign.
For those into the bashing, the Village will have a variety of tools for you to get the job done—"whether you want to smash, toss, or completely obliterate."
Participants are encouraged to dress for a mess, and wear close-toed shoes. Safety goggles will also be provided.
Keke's Donuts will be on site, selling their made-to-order donuts.
Admission is free. Guests of all ages are permitted. Participants will be required to sign a waiver. Signees must be at least 18 years of age or an accompanying parent or guardian will need to sign on their behalf.
Completion of the Pumpkin Smash Waiver can be done in advance. The Village will have a copy of it on file on event day.
Maybe your pets would like to witness the fun, but they're prohibited from the Commons the day of the smash.
