NEW LENOX, IL — A COVID-19 testing company under investigation by multiple states will not be returning to New Lenox when the company plans to resume operations Jan. 22.

New Lenox Mayor Tim Baldermann said the company, Center for COVID Control, was asked Friday to vacate the property at 340 W. Maple St. A new COVID-19 testing company, Fast Track COVID Care, is scheduled to take over the site on Feb. 1, according to Village of New Lenox Economic Development Coordinator Nancy Dye.

Center for COVID Control, based in Rolling Meadows, operates around 300 testing sites across the country, including about 50 in the Chicagoland area. On Thursday, the company posted a statement on its website claiming "operational strain on customer access and delivery of results/status in some locations" was forcing the closure of all of its sites effective Friday.

"To this end, and to ensure the highest customer service and diagnostic quality, the company is announcing today it will temporarily pause further collection of patient specimens effective Friday, January 14, 2022, with plans to reopen Saturday, January 22, 2022,"the statement reads in part.

The Illinois Attorney General's office has opened an investigation into Center for COVID Control, according to multiple media reports. State Attorney General’s offices in Oregon and Massachusetts, as well as the California Department of Public Health, have said they are also looking into the company, according to a report on Patch.

Baldermann said that the Center for COVID Control site had "numerous issues," including failing to get a building registration with the Village, parking issues and failing to get a dumpster for the testing center's waste disposal.

"They had all their garbage out in back. It was blowing around," Baldermann said. "They had rubber gloves and all kinds of other materials from the testing just blowing around in the back. It was not good at all."
