Flag Line Will Honor Young Manhattan Veteran After Death

James Bartz, 21, died Feb. 11. A flag line will be held as his funeral procession passes the American Legion post in New Lenox Feb. 24.

NEW LENOX, IL — Veterans are invited to line Cedar Road in New Lenox Friday, as a young Manhattan resident and Army veteran is escorted to his burial.

James Bartz, 21, died suddenly Saturday, Feb. 11 at his home, an obituary states. Bartz was an Army Specialist. He is survived by his wife Lauren and daughter Hazel, as well as parents James Jay Bartz and Cynthia (John) Privatte; siblings, Jessica (Scott) Meder, Charles T. Harpole, Kathryn Privatte; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Bartz will be remembered "for his love of the military, and the outdoors. In his free time, he enjoyed tinkering on motors and models and going for walks." He loved his family deeply, his obituary states.

Services for Bartz will begin with a visitation at Kurtz Memorial Chapel, 102 E. Francis Rd, on Thursday, Feb. from 3 to 7 p.m. The procession will be held Friday, Feb., meeting at the funeral home at 11:15 a.m. for a 12:30 p.m. funeral service at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery with full military honors.

Members of American Legion Post 1977 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9545 will create a flag line along Cedar Road, to honor Bartz and his family as they pass the American Legion post. The procession will start at Francis and Cedar roads at approximately 11 a.m
