Boy, 10, On Bike Tries To Cross Tracks, Bike Hit By Metra Train: Metra

Metra police were on scene at the Rte. 30 and Cedar Road crossing Monday evening, New Lenox Police said.

NEW LENOX, IL — A 10-year-old boy attempting to cross train tracks on his bike was injured when a train struck the bike Monday evening, Metra police said.

Metra police were on scene at the Route 30 and Cedar Road crossing around 5:30 p.m., said Metra Director of Communications Michael Gillis. The boy's bike was struck by inbound Rock Island train #432, Gillis said

The boy suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to Silver Cross Hospital, Gillis said.

The crossing was closed for approximately an hour and a half, he said.

The incident remains under investigation by Metra Police.
