'Shop & Donate Day' At New Lenox Bakery To Benefit Family Of Late Manhattan Boy

Sugar Shack Cookie Co. will donate a portion of proceeds from Saturday, Oct. 25 to the Hunnicutt family of Manhattan.

NEW LENOX, IL — A New Lenox bakery will donate a portion of sales generated Saturday, Oct. 25, to the family of a Manhattan boy killed in a crash earlier this week.

Sugar Shack Cookie Co., 280 E. Lincoln Highway Unit F, will be open Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Its owner Samantha Hamilton shared on social media that an employee is related to Chance Hunnicutt, the 13-year-old Manhattan boy fatally struck by a semi on Oct. 20.

"Our hearts are absolutely broken for her and her family," Hamilton said on social media. "We invite our community to stop in, share kindness, and help us wrap this family in support and care during the hardest days imaginable."

Hamilton's effort complements others in the community, including a GoFundMe that has raised more than $53,000. A Meal Train has also been started for the family.
