Straight Outta New Lenox: Cops Say Movie Theater Phone Feud Ended With Slap

An Elwood man gabbing on his phone during a Friday night screening of Straight Outta Compton slapped another moviegoer when he had the temerity to complain, police said.

Daniel Gutierrez, 44, was charged with battery in connection with his alleged cinema slap at the New Lenox AMC Showplace.

Gutierrez was “on his phone several times while a movie was playing,” police said.

Another man in the audience asked to Gutierrez to “put his phone away,” police said, but Gutierrez ignored him and kept it up. When the other man again protested, Gutierrez allegedly slapped him.

Gutierrez was arrested and charged with battery. He was released from custody after he posted bond.
