Teen Robbed on Old Plank Road Trail

The 15-year-old set up a meeting with his assailants to make an "illicit purchase," police said.

A teen was robbed on the Old Plank Road Trail by three men he agreed to meet so he could make an “illicit purchase,” police said.

Two of the three men were apprehended early Thursday morning, police said. Jesse Mitchell, 22, of New Lenox, and Joshua Grebic, 21, of Wilmington were jailed on armed robbery charges.

The third man remains at large.

Will County deputies were sent to the New Lenox Police Department late Wednesday night to meet with a 15-year-old who claimed he had been robbed.

The teen reportedly said he was heading to a friend’s house and walking on the trail near William Street when three men wearing bandannas over their faces approached him.

The teen said “one of the subjects ordered him to the ground and held a gun to the back of his head,” according to police. “The subjects then took off the juvenile’s outer clothing, stole his wallet, and threw his cell phone into the trees before running off.”

Less than three hours later, New Lenox police officers reportedly spotted three men matching the description of the bandits near the corner of Joliet Highway and Northgate Road. Two — Grebic and Mitchell — were arrested. Deputies decided the third was not involved and let him loose.

Police reportedly recovered a gun and drugs during a subsequent search.

“Sheriff’s detectives believe that this was an isolated incident and that the juvenile victim had prior contact with one or more of the offenders and had arranged to meet them at Old Plank Trail to make an illicit purchase,” police said.
