NORTHBROOK, IL — A 19-year-old Chicago man has been arrested in connection with a carjacking that took place last month in Northbrook in which a woman said her car was taken by a man with a weapon, Northbrook Police announced on Sunday.

Carlos Clark faces an aggravated vehicular hijacking charge along with aggravated fleeing and eluding, unlawful restraint, and retail theft, Northbrook Police said. The charges stem from an Aug. 6 incident in which a woman told police she was forced to surrender her car after being approached by a man with a weapon.

Police said in a news release on Sunday that an investigation determined that Clark was involved in the theft of a local retailer and then got into the victim’s car and told her he had a weapon, police said. Police said that Clark then took the woman’s car and sped off at a high rate of speed.

The vehicle was later recovered by the Chicago Police Department after police located Clark, who crashed the vehicle in the 7100 block of South Wentworth Avenue and then fled on foot. The police investigation led officers to Clark, who was arrested and charged on Sunday after various law enforcement agencies partnered together to locate Clark, police said.

“Our entire agency worked tirelessly to locate the offender,” Northbrook Police Chief Christopher Kennedy said in a news release. “We are grateful for our partnerships that helped prevent another victim from suffering from this crime.”
