NORTHBROOK, IL — The village of Northbrook will be distributing face masks for residents on Thursday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 1657 Shermer road, formerly Grainger Industrial Supply. Volunteers and staff wearing personal protective equipment will be distributing masks, up to four per vehicle, but will be checking for current Northbrook vehicle stickers to verify proof of residency. The village has secured a limited supply of masks and is encouraging residents only to take what they need.

These reusable and machine washable masks will be distributed on a "first come, first served" basis in a drive-thru fashion. Residents should enter the property from the north drive and proceed to the parking lot. Cars then will be directed to one of two drive-thru lanes.

Last week, the village of Northbrook issued a supplemental order requiring the use of face coverings in public areas like essential businesses and public transportation.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention advises the use of simple cloth face coverings for the general public, as opposed to surgical masks or N95 respirators, which must be reserved for health care workers and emergency personnel. N95 masks and medical-grade masks are not recommended for general public use under Northbrook's supplemental order.
