NORTHBROOK, IL — When times are tough, heroes emerge. We all know someone who's making a difference right now as we live through unprecedented and changing times.

Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize these heroes making a difference in their communities. Together with Ring, we're working to let all your neighbors know about these outstanding people and their stories.

This submission comes from Cindy Kurman, who nominated Sarah Stegner, a longtime friend.

Hero's job: Sarah is co-owner of a restaurant, Prairie Grass Cafe.

Reason for recognition: "She services the community; has been feeding area essential workers at hospitals and the homeless; she opened a national hotline to help people with cooking questions; she's a giver and has run a successful restaurant & it's been hard but she has endured."

One thing to know: She's an awesome cook, is a founder of Green City Market and is always available to help.
