Coronavirus: Northbrook, Deerfield Restricting Outdoor Activities

Northbrook and Deerfield have issued supplemental orders restricting outdoor group activities.

NORTHBROOK — The villages of Northbrook and Deerfield have issued supplemental orders restricting outdoor group activities in responses to residents ignoring Gov. JB Pritzker's stay at home order, which remains in effect until the end of the month. Under the supplemental orders, no person may, at any time, be present at any public area to participate in a close-contact group sport or any activity that involves shared equipment in either village.

Individuals also are excluded from participating in group exercise programs such as group running, cycling, training or athletic exercises. The definition of "group" in this order does not include members of a household or residence.

"These are unsettling times and in these difficult times sometimes we need to sometimes make difficult decisions," Northbrook Village President Sandy Frum said in a video posted to Facebook.

"I know most residents are following the Governor's stay at home order, but many are not," Rosenthal wrote. "There are many who will have only mild symptoms and some who may not have any symptoms at all. These are the individuals who could unknowingly transmit the virus to some of our most vulnerable populations or introduce it into congregate settings."
