Northbrook Rescue Takes In 43 Chihuahuas From Indiana Hoarding Case
Border Tails Rescue, which also saved a number of cats, is hoping to raise $500 per dog.

NORTHBROOK, IL — While pet owners across the country are celebrating National Puppy Day Thursday, a Northbrook-based rescue is doing what it does — rescuing critters. Border Tails Rescue, 2975 Milwaukee Ave., said in a social media post it took in 43 chihuahuas, along with 48 cats, following a hoarding case in Indiana.
BTR said the pets were discovered due to a house fire. The no-kill animal rescue and welfare organization is hoping to raise $500 per dog for a total of $21,500. Two senior dogs were also discovered, one is a hospice case who is bonded to another senior and already placed together in a foster home.
BTR is sharing photos of the dogs through its Facebook page here. The group said there are three groups of moms and puppies as well.

"These pups are all understandably confused and scared and our shelter is seeking your support," the post reads.
BTR said it will need to provide medical care, training, supplies, and socialization for the new dogs. They said the $500 per dog will help cover their spay/neuter surgery, shots, microchips, extra care such as skin conditions/cherry eyes, food, overall care by staff, and wellness visits with our vet.

BTR is seeking monetary donations in addition to basic supplies, most notably martingale collars and small dog beds.
"We would be grateful for any donations since we have dogs of all sizes and needs, but this specific group is needing small dog beds and martingale collars to replace the ones we have given these pups," the post continues.
For those interested in adopting the pups, BTR will be posting information to its Facebook page in the next few days. They can also be reached at adopt@bordertailsrescue.org.
